The Little Things

littlethings-logoSometimes the little things can drive us nuts, and yet sometimes the little things mean more to us than we could ever express into words! Let me tell you a story…..

I have recently noticed that my daughter and my mom have some of the same traits. It obviously skipped a generation in me (thank goodness) 🙂 – BUT it is funny to see this in action. They are both OCD about the small things. I came home the other day to notice my mom had emptied the Tupperware cereal container  that had contained Grape Nuts (my favorite) into a bowl on the counter. She had washed and dried the container and placed it back in the cabinet clean and ready for more cereal at some future point in time. I rolled my eyes upon seeing this and ever so kindly asked  my mom, “Why is the Grape Nuts in the bowl on the counter?” She replied ” Well it was almost empty, so I cleaned out the container and washed it.”  Now to her and maybe many of you too, this makes perfect sense. But to me – I just smiled and laughed. Because it just wasn’t a tiny amount of cereal, it was enough probably for 3 servings!! I’m still working on getting it all eaten. But we have an empty container   – clean and ready!!

For whatever reason the container that was almost empty bothered her to the point of needing to clean it. She is my mom and I love her dearly. This is an example of “This could drive me NUTS”….kind of thing.

NOW for the little things that mean so much –

Tonight as I was helping my mother  – she unexpectedly took hold of my hand and looked me in the eyes and said “I can’t thank you enough for all that you do for me and your dad. You will never know just how much we appreciate you and love you. I always wanted a daughter and God blessed me more than I ever dreamed possible when he gave me you! I love you!”

Even as I write this, I am tearing up. I will always remember that moment and what she said from her heart! ❤

When was the last time you shared something small and yet meant the world to someone else? Take the time to do it. It will bless both of you ten fold.

Love and Blessings,

  1. Oh Deanna ~ what a gift and blessing you are! To accept and to love someone with all of their OCDs and to laugh at their quirks, to have them know that you do love them as a whole and to hear their gratefulness in feeling/knowing that love is theirs ~ I can’t think of anything better in the world. Thanks for being you! ♥

    1. Awwwww I am so thankful I’m in the middle of 2 generations (my mom) and (my daughter) that I didn’t get the OCD gene!! I laugh at the small things and cherish the great moments together. Thank you so much for your kind words!! ♥ ♥ ♥ Blessings!
